APPLICATION PERIOD HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL 18 FEB

The discipline-specific advisory boards of the Turku University Library are looking for student members for the period ending on 31 August 2026

The discipline-specific advisory boards of the Turku University Library are looking for members and deputy members for the period ending on 31 August 2026. The Turku University Library is an academic library that primarily serves research, teaching and studying conducted within the University of Turku. It is also a general research library that is open to everyone in search of information.

There are four discipline-specific advisory boards that are responsible for cooperation between the library and the university community (number of positions in parenthesis, members first and deputy members second):

  • the advisory board for humanities (1 +1),
  • the advisory board for education and social sciences (1 + 1),
  • the advisory board for economics and law (1 + 1), and
  • the advisory board for medicine, technology and science (1 + 0).

Each advisory board is looking for one regular student member and one deputy member. The student must study in one of the faculties whose advisory board they are applying for.

The tasks of the library's advisory boards include:

  • Promoting interaction and acting as a forum for cooperation between the library and its users, i.e. the academic community and students.
  • Participating as experts in the development of the discipline-specific materials acquired by the library. This includes participating in the creation of the library's material procurement policy. The members of the advisory board provide their expertise in evaluating the materials in use and discuss the selection criteria of materials.
  • Participating in the development of the library's services, especially with regard to the services needed for research and studying, taking into account the different service needs of different disciplines.

The advisory board meets 3–4 times per year or as needed.

APPLICATION PERIOD HAS BEEN EXTENDED. The application period begins on Friday, 26 Jan 2024. You can apply by filling in an electronic form found on the TYY website (www.tyy.fi) by Sunday, 18 Feb 2024 at 23:59. TYY's Specialist in Academic Affairs will go through the applications and prepare a proposal to TYY's Executive Board on who should be elected. The Board will elect the student representatives in February.

Apply to The discipline-specific advisory boards

When selecting the student members for the advisory boards, attention is paid to these kinds of issues: previous experience on organisations, university administration and advocacy work; motivation and commitment to the task; balanced representation of the faculties, departments or subjects concerned; and a balanced gender distribution for student representatives on the board.

According to TYY's regulation on the election of student representatives, eligibility is limited to individuals with the right to complete a bachelor's degree, master's degree, licentiate degree, or doctoral degree, or a specialist degree in medicine or in dentistry, at the University of Turku.  In addition, a prerequisite for eligibility is that the student has registered as attending. However, persons who are full-time employees of the university as defined by the University Regulation on Elections are not eligible.

According to the aforementioned TYY regulation, the number of student representative posts in the university's administration is limited to three posts per person. This entry is intended to ensure a balanced distribution of the posts.

TYY emphasises transparency and equality in its activities. We hope to receive applications from many people with different backgrounds.
