The application for the 2023 0.7% development cooperation projects funding has been completed and the projects have been selected. In 2023, half of the 0.7% share will be donated to a predefined long-term joint project between TYY and Huussi ry in Zambia. The other half of the donation will be used to help Ukraine, which has been affected by a war of aggression.
The project we were looking for had to meet the following criteria:
* The project would provide humanitarian or development aid to Ukraine.
* The donation must be specifically targeted to Ukraine.
* The project supports the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.
* The project takes into account the most vulnerable groups in society.
* Project reporting is verifiable.
A total of 2 applications were received.
The 2023 Development Cooperation projects are therefore as follows:
1) Käymäläseura Huussi ry has been selected based on the call for project partners carried out in autumn 2019.
Käymäläseura Huussi ry is a Finnish organisation promoting ecological sanitation and the use of dry toilets. Huussi ry has environmental and development cooperation projects in Finland and abroad. In 2021-2024, a sanitation project in Zambia is underway. The aim of the sanitation project is to improve sanitation in the country and solve problems related to poor sanitation.
2) Sisu Ukraine was selected through an open call in spring 2023.
Sisu Ukraine ry is a Finnish organisation founded in 2022 that provides humanitarian and defence aid to Ukraine. The association provides material aid to people in need in Ukraine, as well as care and accommodation facilities for people affected by the war. The association has an extensive network of professional contacts both in Ukraine and in Finland. The association aims to implement a project with a local partner, with funding from TYY, to provide low-threshold psychological crisis support and counselling to people suffering from war-related symptoms in Ukraine.
The selection of the projects was made by the TYY Development cooperation wing, which at its meeting selected the project it considered best on the basis of the wing's research and made a proposal to the TYY Board. The TYY Board made the final decision on the donation targets. The 0.7% of the funds will be divided equally between the two projects.
