In the year 2028, the Student Union of the University of Turku wants to be the most responsible student union in Finland at the most appealing university in Finland. Check out TYY's new Strategy!
In May, the Student Union Council approved the Student Union's Strategy for the years 2024–2028. The new Strategy guides the Student Union's activities and the preparation of next year's action plan in the autumn.
The Strategy Committee worked on the Strategy from autumn 2022 to May 2023. The committee included representatives from within the office, alumni, the Council, as well as regular students. Besides the Committee, individual Council members, staff members and alumni also participated in Strategy workshops. We are extremely happy with the result of this open process. TYY's direction for the next few years is clear. The goal of the Strategy Committee was to formulate a bold Strategy that would develop the Student Union's operations while continuing to focus on our core activities.
The values of the Student Union are education, responsibility, equality, communality and openness. When defining these values, we utilised a member survey conducted in the spring of 2023, which asked what are the most important values for the student community. We implement the Student Union's values through the Strategy's operating principles and priorities, which are:
- Influencing and advocacy: We boldly take things forward
- Promoting community spirit: We are familiar with our members and organisations
- Service provision to members and organisations: We bring students together
- Co-operation with interested parties: We are a responsible partner

TYY's mission is to make student life a once-in-a-lifetime experience for students at the University of Turku, so that everyone will have optimal capacity for active, informed and critical citizenship. This mission is largely based on the Universities Act and the tasks it defines for student unions.
TYY's vision is to be the most responsible student union in Finland at the most appealing university in Finland. The Student Union understands responsibility as ecological, social and economic responsibility. Responsibility begins where legislation and standards end. Operating "at the most appealing university in Finland" is part of TYY's Strategy, because the Student Union's activities also have a significant impact on the study experience at the University of Turku and therefore the University's appeal. TYY wants to be the most responsible student union in Finland, and the University of Turku truly has the potential to be the most appealing university in Finland.
The goal of the new Strategy is to clarify the purpose and strategic direction of the Student Union's activities. TYY focuses on its core activities by implementing its strategic objectives.
