TYY Student Union Council Election 2023
The Student Union of the University of Turku (TYY) will organise a Student Union Council election from 30 October to 8 November 2023. In the election, 41 representatives will be elected from among eligible members of the Student Union. The Council (edustajisto) exercises the highest decision-making power in the Student Union. The Council's two-year term will begin in January 2024. Votes will be cast via an electronic system.
The Council and its term
In the election, 41 full members and their deputies will be elected to the Council of the Student Union of the University of Turku in accordance with the Election Rules approved by a previous Council. The term of office of the elected Council will begin in January 2024 and last until the end of the year 2025.
Voting period
Voting is possible between 10 am on 30 October 2023 and 4 pm on 8 November 2023.
The votes are cast via an electronic system. Voters will need to log into the system with their personal credentials. A link to the voting address will be available throughout the voting period on TYY's website at www.tyy.fi/vaalit.
Right to vote, eligibility for candidacy and voting regulations
All students who have registered as attending at the University of Turku and who are members of TYY are eligible to vote and stand for election.
However, permanent employees of the Student Union and persons in leading positions in companies of the Student Union, such as Universtas Oy, Unica Oy or UniGe Oy, are not eligible for election. The electronic voting system verifies the right to vote from the electoral register. Each person entitled to vote may cast one vote in the election. The voter must personally cast their own vote.
Electoral register
The electoral register will be published no later than Monday 2 October 2023 at noon on TYY's official bulletin board. Any person who is not in the electoral register, even though they fulfil the conditions for the right to vote, shall announce themselves to the Secretary General by 4 pm on Friday, 20 October 2023 if they wish to be added to the electoral register.
Candidacy
You can present yourself as a candidate by submitting a declaration of candidacy to the TYY Service Point, which is located on the ground floor of Student House A (Ylioppilastalo A, Rehtorinpellonkatu 4A, 20500 Turku). The form must be signed and filled with the correct information. The declaration of candidacy can also be submitted as a scanned file with a signature or as a PDF using the signing feature. Email such files to
tyy-vaalit@utu.fi. The document must be submitted by Monday 9 October 2023 at noon.
Establishing an electoral coalition (vaaliliitto)
Two or more candidates may establish an electoral coalition (vaaliliitto).
One electoral coalition may include at most 82 candidates. An electoral coalition is established by submitting a coalition founding document to the TYY Service Point, which is located on the ground floor of Student House A
(Ylioppilastalo A, Rehtorinpellonkatu 4A, 20500 Turku). The founding document can also be submitted as a scanned file with signatures or as a PDF using the signing feature. Email such files to tyy-vaalit@utu.fi. The document must be submitted by Monday 9 October 2023 at noon.
Establishing an electoral alliance (vaalirengas)
Electoral coalitions and individual candidates can come together to form an electoral alliance (vaalirengas). An electoral alliance is established by submitting an alliance agreement to the TYY Service Point, which is located on the ground floor of Student House A (Ylioppilastalo A,
Rehtorinpellonkatu 4A, 20500 Turku). The alliance agreement can also be
submitted as a scanned file with signatures or as a PDF using the signing feature. Email such files to tyy-vaalit@utu.fi. The document must be submitted by Monday 9 October 2023 at noon.
Master list of candidates
The master list, i.e. the list of candidates, will be published on TYY's bulletin board by Friday, October 13 2023 at noon.
Campaign advertising
Campaign advertising is regulated by the Ethical Guidelines for the Student Union Council Election approved by the Central Election Committee.
Publication of the election results
Unofficial election results will be published on 8 November 2023 after voting has ended. The official result will be published on TYY's official bulletin board no later than 21 November 2023.
Documents related to the election and further information
The election forms (declaration of candidacy, coalition founding document and alliance agreement), the Ethical Guidelines for the Student Union Council Election and the Election Rules can be found on TYY's website at www.tyy.fi/vaalit. Election forms can also be obtained from the TYY Service Point. A written form that meets the requirements of the Election Rules is valid even if it does not use a template drafted by the Central Election Committee.
