University Lecturer Teemu Hynninen was chosen as Teacher of the Year 2024 and University Teacher Anu Ikonen-Kullberg as Counsellor of the Year 2024.
The late summer sun pampered the crowds of participants in the traditional Opening Carnival in front of the Educarium and Publicum. At the carnival, organisations and other actors were able to present their activities and welcome new members to join. This year, as many as 140 presenters signed up, so there was plenty to explore for both new and old students.
Rector Marjo Kaartinen, Vice Rector Piia Björn and TYY Chair of the Board Katie Astin gave speeches at the opening carnival. Rector Kaartinen welcomed the new students into the university community of up to 25,000 people and hoped that everyone would find their place there.
Teacher and Counsellor of the Year awarded at Opening Carnival
University Lecturer Teemu Hynninen was chosen as Teacher of the Year 2024. Hynninen's choice was justified in the proposals by, among other things, his ability to teach and his effective teaching methods, which have led to a huge increase in the pass rate of first-year courses. In addition, Hynninen was described as a major reason why new and old students get to know each other right at the beginning of the academic year, as everyone is present and studying together.
University teacher Anu Ikonen-Kullberg was chosen as the Counsellor of the Year 2024. Ikonen-Kullberg's choice was justified by her very deep dedication to the well-being and success of students. They is said to have inspired and encouraged students in their studies in a uniquely understanding and encouraging way.
In addition, the KieliVertailu tool was awarded as the language act of the year at the Opening Carnival, and the stakeholder cooperation award was awarded for the first time Vau, mikä vaikutus! -podcast.
