The first meeting of TYY's Representative Council in autumn 2024 was held on Wednesday the 11th of September. Our agenda was full of important decisions:
After our Secretary General Petra Peltonen took on new duties, the Representative Council was tasked with selecting a new Secretary General for TYY. The selection committee representing all the Representative Council groups prepared and implemented a recruitment process of several stages, on the basis of which the Representative Council decided to elect Janika Takatalo as the new Secretary General of TYY. Congratulations to both the new Secretary General and Petra for the new duties!
The final hours of the meeting were spent in the process of approving TYY's new Environmental Programme. A number of changes were made in the meeting to the board's proposal, which was modified on the basis of the preliminary discussion in May. Many of the amendments were also reformed in the Turku Hall through student democracy!
In addition, there was much debate about showing support for the Palestinian people and the academic boycott of Israel. At the end of a long discussion, the desicion was postponed to the next meeting in accordance with TYY's rules at the request of five members of the Representative Council, so that the representatives could become better acquainted with the propositions made. The debate will therefore continue in the form of decision making at the next meeting.
The next meeting of the Representative Council will be held on 16 October in Pori. We will then delve into other documents that guide our operations, such as the to-be-updated TYY's Equality Programme. Stay TYYned!

The Representative Council is TYY's highest decision-making body, which is elected every two years. Among other things, the Representative Council decides on TYY's political policies and finances and approves the student union's action plan and other documents guiding the activities. The Representative Council meetings are open to members and can also be followed via a stream on TYY's YouTube channel. The next meeting will be held on October 16 at 6:15 p.m.
