Optima
Optima ry is the student organization for automation engineering students at the University of Turku. Optima was founded on October 31, just a few months after the automation engineering program began at the university. Among the technical student guilds in Turku, Optima holds the distinction of being the second fastest (thanks to Efficio) to be established.
Optima’s full members can be recognized at student events by their overalls, which are the color of spring road dust, and their wide smiles. However, Optima also boasts a vibrant mix of associate members wearing overalls of many different colors. The guild’s membership includes students from every corner of the University of Turku, other higher education institutions, and even from abroad.
In a short time, Optima has built an admirable reputation in the technical student community, even once being described as the “most innovative guild.” This comes as no surprise, as Optima has organized a wide variety of events and activities, often in collaboration with other student organizations. For instance, highlights include a pre-wappu excursion to Tampere in private cars and the Tomato Sitsit that followed May Day, during which Optima secured the title of the longest Wappu celebration among Turku guilds (a title it self-proclaimed).
Life at Optima’s guild room is lively and active, thanks to the shared space with their beloved roommate, Asklepios. Activities in the guild room have included wine tastings, board game nights, badge sewing sessions, and paying homage to their roommate’s proudly displayed overalls.
In short, Optima ry has quickly established itself as a cornerstone of the technical student scene in Turku. Looking ahead, Optima will continue creating new traditions, with road dust flying and tomatoes soaring, offering its members the chance to enjoy student life to the fullest in great company.
